Project Objective

Enhance User Experience : The central focus of the kiosk interface design was to provide an exciting and user-friendly experience for customers, making the ordering process interactive and enjoyable.

Group Order Facilitation: The interface needed to be conducive to group orders, enabling users to collaborate seamlessly while selecting their desired menu items.

Time and Convenience: The design aimed to save customers' time and offer convenience, reducing order processing time while maintaining accuracy.

Integrated Payment Options: The interface was designed to integrate multiple payment options, allowing customers to complete their orders effortlessly and securely.

Preliminary Research

I conducted thorough market research and user insights were gathered to understand the preferences, habits, and expectations of the target audience in India. This data played a vital role in shaping the kiosk's design and functionality. Some of the main insights from this research include -

1. Include description and price upfront since people don't know our products and price is important for Indian demographics
2. Including an option to "Start again" as we observed that people leave kiosk in between their session
3. People who resumed someone session in between were confused about the order type

Based on ergonomic study-

The large kiosk screen posed an interesting challenge because of it low resolution, despite its large physical size, and distance from the floor.

  • In terms of reachability, it is important to keep all the necessary functions of the kiosk in the easy & average reach areas.
  • To avoid cognitive load due to low resolution of the kiosk, it was important to use colors and sizes of the component that had higher contrast ratio and bigger target area

Defining the structure

Home Page Explorations - F vs Z pattern!

There were two layouts that were explored when defining the structure of the Homepage- F & Z layout. In order to decide what would be more convenient for the user to explore different categories as well as view enough item in catalogue, I conducted a small user testing and internal review-

  • The F layout had more visibility of categories compared to Z layout
  • The users find it easier to scan the item in F layout and it also has lesser cognitive load

There were multiple explorations done to find best way to showcase different upselling options. The goal was to design the upselling in a way that seems natural to the user and not overwhelming. The main reason to include upselling is because food at Popeyes is usually paired with fries and coke, so to replicate that behavior it is important to design upselling flow.

Improvements after User testing & Feedback

The combo category was shifted to top as more customers were interested in that category. Also the savings is clearly highlighted on the card to give more value to users.

Veg Filter was redesigned and made more prominent & Boneless filter was added

Impact

The successful implementation of the project led to a remarkable 5% increase in the average bill per order value, bringing about significant positive changes for the company. The impact ranged from financial growth and improved profitability to customer loyalty and competitive advantage. The project demonstrated the value of data-driven decision-making and the importance of strategic upselling and cross-selling techniques in driving business success.
